Beneficial Use of Landfill Gas
نویسنده
چکیده
1 page only) With regulatory and environmental pressure toward control of landfill gas (LFG) management of collected LFG has become a significant issue. At a minimum, collected LFG must be flared for control of methane and nonmethane organic compounds. Beneficial reuse of LFG as an alternative to combustion has tremendous potential at most landfills. Issues facing reuse of LFG include gas composition and volume, corrosive nature of gas and combustion products, gas cleanup requirements, the price of energy, and/or identification of end users of energy products. Significant progress has occurred in LFG beneficial reuse research, producing several viable alternatives. Limited demonstration of the more innovative techniques has occurred nationally, and not at all in the state of Florida. The need to evaluate the many available alternatives and pursue demonstration of these techniques, therefore exists in the state of Florida. The specific objectives of this project were to evaluate practical and innovative beneficial reuse opportunities for LFG, with emphasis on on-site techniques, and to identify potential funding sources for pilot demonstration of reuse techniques at a Central Florida landfill. This project involved an extensive literature review, economic analysis of beneficial LFG reuse options, and contact with federal, private, and state agencies (the US Environmental Protection Agency, US Department of Energy, and landfill managers), to explore funding and demonstration siting opportunities. Estimation of gas emission released from a municipal solid waste landfill site through a modeling approach: A case study, Sanandaj, Iran
Sanitary landfill is the common strategy for municipal solid waste management in developing countries. Anaerobic decomposition of disposed wastes in landfill under favorable conditions will lead to the landfill gas (LFG) emissions, considering as emerging air pollutants. The emission of greenhouse gases, including methane, resulting from municipal solid waste disposal and treatment processes ar...
متن کاملEstimating Landfill Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Measured Ambient Methane Concentrations and Dispersion Modeling
Since municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills emit significant amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, there is considerable interest in quantifying surficial methane emissions from landfills. The authors propose a new and easier method by which to estimate methane emissions. The technique uses hundreds of ambient air VOC measurements taken within a landfill, as receptors, and solves the sta...
متن کاملEstimation of gas emission from municipal solid waste landfill in Kuhdasht city using LandGEM software
Background: Large amount of solid waste is annually produced in Kuhdasht city. These waste materials are decomposed by anaerobic microorganisms after burying in disposal site and produce large amounts of gases (mainly methane and carbon dioxide). This study aimed to estimate the gas emission from solid waste disposal of Kuhdasht city using a tool known as LandGEM software. Materials and Method...
متن کاملEstimation and modeling of gas emissions in municipal landfill (Case study: Landfill of Jiroft City)
One of the major factors, contributing to the emission of greenhouse gases in the environment is generation of pollutant gases in municipal landfills. As for the design and building of a gas collecting system, it is necessary to properly estimate the amount and type of the landfill emissions. By means of LandGEM model, this study predicts the amount and type of the landfill gases, produced for ...
